Danny Elfman on scoring Cirque Du Soleil’s IRIS

Great interview with Danny Elfman on his music scoring of the Cirque Du Soleil show “IRIS” showing at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, CA.

One excerpt I found every interesting:

Danny Elfman – “Yeah, but I’d have to correct you because The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo had no rock and roll. We had no electronic instruments.  In fact, for almost a decade that I was in the group, I didn’t even listen to music recorded after 1938. All of the music for the Mystic Knights was driven and inspired by Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Django Reinhardt, Igor Stravinsky, and Darius Milhaud.”

I haven’t seen IRIS yet because it just opened this year in Los Angeles and I’m out in China doing the Cirque show Zaia here in Macau. But we have had a few of the IRIS artists visit us in Macau and they are all very excited about it. FYI – Danny Elfman’s IRIS score is said to be available on Amazon.com starting November 2011 – http://www.amazon.com/Iris-Cirque-Du-Soleil/dp/B005P4HK3Q/
