Will I Live to be 80?

Received this from my mother. Thought I’d post it for Mother’s Day.

Will I live to be 80?
I recently turned 65 and had to choose a new primary care physician
for my Medicare program.

After two visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing “fairly
well” for my age.

A little concerned about that comment, I couldn’t resist asking him,
“Do you think I will live to be 80?”

He asked: Do you smoke tobacco or drink alcoholic beverages?”

“Oh no,” I replied. “I don’t do drugs, either.”

> & gt; “Do you have many friends and entertain frequently?”

“I said, “No, I usually stay home and keep to myself”.

“Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?”

I said, “No, my other doctor said that all red meat is unhealthy!”

“Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing,
hiking, or bicycling?”

“No, I don’t,” I said.

“Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?”

“No,” I said. “I don’t do any of those things.”

He looked at me and said, “Then why do you give a hoot?

  1. I am 74, my mother who lives in an assisted living is 95 1/2 YO. We had her with us for Mother’s Day.

My husband 75 and I both work in some capacity of Health Care for the elderly.

I love the above, will I live to be 80…I don’t drink and I have never smoked and know the issues for ones health, however, let’s get some balance and faith in life. We certainly do have lots of priorities mixed up. thanks for sharing.

  2. I used to think that 80 was going to be my next signifigant birthday celebration after 50.. but I know so many amazing 80+ year olds that I have upped it to 90!
When I am 80 I plan and hope to be doing most of the stuff I am doing now!
The old adage “use it or lose it” really is true and it applies to the mind too!
