My Mandarin teacher is having me learn this song in Mandarin: 听海 – 张惠妹. I’ll let you know how it goes. Here’s a rough English translation:

Write me a letter to tell me what the color of the ocean is today.  Every night the ocean has been beside you. How is your feeling? Grey represents, don’t want to talk about what blue means: sad. You’ve been drifting aimlessly with a madness heart. Where do you moor at?

Write me a letter. Tell me what you want to dream tonight? Neither in the dream or not, I don’t let you have any choice. I close my eyes at night.

Why you felt attraction but afraid to getting close? Listen. Crying from the ocean which is weeping who has been heart-broken but refuse to face reality. I won’t to me at least I have been calmed. But even my tear is disbelieving.

Listen. Crying from the ocean. Why this ocean is too sentimental and weep until dawn?

Write me a letter. Let it be the final promise. Tell me when you left me how was your feeling?
