It was published in the first Lutheran hymnal, Achtliederbuch, of 1524. Luther&#8217;s version of the psalm reflects much of his own experience in the early days of the Reformation. O Lord, look down from heav&#8217;n, behold<br \/>\nand let Thy pity waken;<br \/>\nHow few are we within Thy fold,<br \/>\nThy saints by men forsaken!<br \/>\nTrue faith seems quenched on ev&#8217;ry hand,<br \/>\nmen suffer not Thy Word to stand;<br \/>\nDark times have us o&#8217;er taken.<\/p>\n<p>2.
