Audition Tips for a Musical
\n<\/a><\/p>\n.<\/p>\n
Auditioning can be stressful,
\nhere are some helpful hints when heading out for the audition.<\/p>\n
Arrive at least 15 minutes early. You don’t
\nwant to have to rush into your audition.
\nGive yourself time to find the space and warm up.<\/p>\n
Pack your bag with a book in case there is
\nwaiting and a bottle of water.
\nNot every place has a water fountain.<\/p>\n
Be nice to everybody.
\nYou never know if the person you are speaking to is important.<\/p>\n
There may be several people waiting with you to audition.
\nRemember that they are competing with you for the same job.
\nDon’t let them intimidate you.<\/p>\n
Wear neat, comfortable clothing.
\nWe know you want to look nice,
\nbut make sure you can move around the room.
\nAnd don’t wear a costume.
\nYour outfit can suggest the character such as a high-collar
\nblouse for a period piece, but don’t get all dressed up.<\/p>\n
Careful when using perfume or cologne. You don’t want to
\nsend anyone out of the room in a sneezing fit.<\/p>\n
Try to find some background information about
\nthe charcter you are auditioning for.
\nIf you are auditioning for a particular company,
\nbe familiar with their work.
\nIt can also help you decide which pieces to
\nchoose for your audition.<\/p>\n
Bring clean and clearly marked sheet music.
\nIf you are auditioning for a musical,
\nbe sure the music you give the piano player
\nis cut down to 16 bars and is free of stray marks and coffee stains.<\/p>\n
Remember to smile. If you are nervous,
\ntake a deep breath and try to relax.
\nRecognize that you are not going to get every job
\nyou audition for, but can learn from every experience.<\/p>\n
When you are called in for your audition,
\nbe confident and smile
\nand unless it is vital, avoid asking too many questions
\nas your audition probably has a tight time slot.<\/p>\n
Keep your monologue to about a minute. Most directors can tell
\nin that time if they are interested. Have several pieces prepared
\nand one longer piece in case they ask to see more.<\/p>\n
Definitely do not ask if you will be called back.
\nThe casting director will let you know, that you can be sure of.
