Destination Macau – The Cotai Strip

Catch a glimpse of the Cotai Strip ® in Macau, which is described as Asia’s Las Vegas ® by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation – the same folks who trademarked the registered names behind this next big destination. It’s here that Sheldon Adelson’s Venetian Macau Resort will open in 2007 with 3000 rooms, Venetian-style canals and Chinese singing gondoliers.

Macau when it was still a Portugese colony. Its harbor, Ma-Kwok temple, St.Paul’s Cathedral facade, Chiang Kai Shek’s portrait was still displayed, firecracker industry, ferry with refugees heading for Hong Kong.

Sands Venetian Macau – March 2008

Weidner said the progress in the entertainment and retail aspects has been significant. In addition to the Cirque du Soleil show planned for The Venetian Macao and an ongoing partnership with the NBA to provide a variety of international basketball events, the company is working to finalize deals to bring other exciting sporting events, popular touring shows, major concerts, and a variety of special events to the Cotai Strip. Weidner reported the same type of progress is being made on the retail front, as retailers remain excited about being a part of this destination.
