How Cold is Winter in Montreal?

How cold is the winter in Montreal, Canada? It’s freeeeeeeeeeezing. Here are some bandmates braving the ice while foraging for food. We’ve been here for two months since the end of January and some nights have been so cold you can barely breathe.

It will be so cold our eyes start tearing up randomly. People driving by probably think we’re the most depressed bunch they’ve ever seen.

BUT, the upside is the people of Montreal are very warm hearted. And the snow is pretty damn beautiful. As soon as it turns to yucky ice and sluch – VIOLA! – more snow. I’ve heard this winter has been one of their heaviest snow falls on record.

In fact, Montreal has a budget each year for snow removal. At one point after we arrived, the city wasn’t clearing the snow because they had used up their snow removal budget. After a couple days it was better.

The snow removal at night is like something out of a spy movie. Big dark trucks moving slowly down the streets at two in the morning with tractors funneling snow into them. It’s a grand, macabre procession.

I think the coldest night we had was around minus 20 Celsius. Now it’s March 21, and we had more snow today…
