(Here should be some really cool pictures of everyone at the Montreal Airport yelling “Macau! Macau”. But I was too tired to take them.) Welcome to my most mundane blog post EV-er…
On March 23, 2008 the Cirque Du Soleil artists for “Macau I Cosmos” flew from Montreal, Canada to Hong Kong for relocation. Here’s an uneventful post about our initial relocation. The photos are with my old camera from the 1800’s, they are horrible, and none of them are the least bit interesting.
Last time I flew to China was first class and this time was coach. Would highly recommend you upgrade to business or first class for the flight. It’s 14 hours and entirely exhausting. When people arrive here and you ask how the flight was – they just stare at you remembering the mind numbing torture.
On the flight from Montreal to Vancouver I got to sit next to Terri. She’s got the coolest accent in the world.
Flying into Hong Kong airport.
Just arrived in Hong Kong and waiting for the ferry to Macau. Everyone is wasted.
Once out of the airplane some artists couldn’t help doing some acrobatics in the airport. They were so happy to finally be able to move again.
Cirque put us up at the Taipa Regency right next to the Greek Mythology and Crown casinos. Most of us stayed there about three weeks until we found our apartments to move into.
This is a view of the Greek Mythology casino.
Our first day in Macau and the Cirque company managers take us on a full tour of the islands of Macau, Coloane and Taipa. You’d expect pictures of our tour? No, pictures of their backs. I have such an eye for photography…
This is Olivier Milchberg – the plucked string player in the band. He’s the ultimate cool French artist with the cool accent and smooth demeanor.
This is Racheal Cogan – recorder player in the Cirque band. She’s an aussie who tries to convince us that WE have the accents, not her. She’s ultra sweet and awesomely warm.
This is Rose Winebrenner – vocalist in the Cirque band. She’s a free spirit and always the first one to strike out on her own adventures.
Our first free break in Macau and people are on a mad rush to get their cellphones activated. A lot of I-Phones were sold that day.
The Venetian! Our new home for several years. This is the view as we walk through the gardens in Old Taipa.
The gondoliers ride outside the Venetian and inside the canals through the shops. They sing classical songs in Italian as they row.
Hey, that’s a poster for our show! At the Venetian is Steve Bach, Olivier Milchberg and myself.
And now we all go to the hotel and get some long deserved shut eye…
Ah, I remember the smog as if it were yesterday …
