Philippine Vacation 2009 – Palawan

palawan

A friend and I have picked the Philippines as our next vacation destination. We’ve decided on the Palawan island chain and with a one day layover in Manila. We were going to Boracai, but decided to go South to Palawan for hopefully a less touristy experience. Boracai is supposed to be a great party area, but Palawan is said to be more pristine and the most beautiful landscape.

Susan Boyle – Singer – Britains Got Talent 2009

47 Year old Susan Boyle wows the judges with her performance in the auditions for Britains Got Talent, singing I dreamed a dream from Les Miserables.

Embedding for most of the videos has been disabled, probably because of the high traffic, but you can watch a video clip of her on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luRmM1J1sfg

It’s moments like this that make a life in the arts so rich…

Billy Bob Thornton ‘Blow Up’ on Q TV

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJWS6qyy7bw

Q was visited by country-pop band The Boxmasters. The Boxmasters’s biggest claim to fame is that their singer is Oscar-winner Billy Bob Thornton. If you were listening, you heard what could best be described as a ‘showdown at the Q corral’ when Mr. Thornton took offense to our mention of his cinematic accomplishments.

Ovo

The name and visiual of Cirque Du Soleil’s latest touring show was released to the public. “Ovo” is a show on the theme of bugs and insects. It looks very fun!

CNN Comes to Zaia – March 2009

CNN came to our ZAIA show on March 26, 2009 to interview Daniel Lamarre, President of Cirque Du Soleil. In this interview you will also footage of that night’s ZAIA show and backstage shots of artists warming up and preparing for the show.

Daniel Lamarre talks about strategies of the arts and entertainment during the global financial crisis.

Also in attendance on this show was the band that opened for Coldplay, which did a concert in Hong Kong on March 25, 2009.

ZAIA is Cirque Du Soleil’s resident show at the Sands Venetian in Macau (SAR) China.

Freddy singing “before the next teardrop” and “wasted days and wasted nights” New Mexico State Fair 2003. Conrad Askland is playing keyboards with Freddy in this video. Not a great video, but just happened to run across it while surfing YouTube. Augie Meyers is also playing accordion with us in this video.

Notes on the 2009 Macbook Pro

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qpxab2osjKo

(Video above is Macbook Air boot comparision between SSD and HDD drives)

I’ve spent way too much time comparing the different Mac computers with PC’s. At home I have 8 PC’s. two PC laptops and one Mac G4. I use the G4 to run the Digidesign ProTools TDM MixPlus music recording system. I use the PC’s for everything from light video editing and music to installing internet software and even playing World of Warcraft ((I’m a level 53 Orc Hunter. YEAH!)

My main objections to buying the MacBook Pro were these (read on to see how these objections were overcome and incorrect):

  • Not able to play high end games on Mac computers.
  • When I upgrade to the new ProTools HD system I’ll need a Mac Pro (the Mac tower).
  • I still have a lot of PC software that I need to run.
  • The price: Around $5,000 fully loaded at 2.93Ghz with 8mb Ram, Final Cut Express, Aperture, Iwork, Aperture and Logic Express installed.

Asian Buddhism and the Lay Population

Mmmmm…….another blog post about nothing that I am an expert on. Just an observation from my limited personal experience. This post is about my perspective of religion and Buddhism in Asia and the lay population. (“Lay people” are ordinary people like you and me. Members of congregations and everyday people. They are not church leaders, monks or ministers.)
